Spectacular and absolutely flawless!By a customer from Beddington , 28 Sep 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]I am sure there are flaws with this movie, but for me it topped The Fighter, which in my estimation was excellent. This film has got the balance right with everything: the perfect actors were cast for the essential parts, the acting was perfection and the fights were so gripping, I felt like I was the one being thumped and I don't like fighting or MMA. But the fact that the fight scenes were so brilliantly constructed and filmed was necessary to advance the story. To me this is the best film I have seen in ages, because it REALLY reeled me and kept me fully engaged and involved in every way. I was sobbing and cheering at the same time in the end, I've NEVER done that watching any movie! And I think the secret is that the story is so riveting: the most dramatic and heart wrenching scenes happen between the three men in the movies and I found this so amazingly refreshing. The acting or the actors just could not have been better and once again Hardy proves he is an actor that has many layers to him and just keeps on surprising his viewers. To deny his talent would be absurd, cause this actor takes on a role and just creates magic and makes it his own. When you watch him as Tommy his anger is almost palpable when he gets into the cage and fights, in the last fight scene he is anger personified, and you cannot help but be moved. This movie reminded me of 'The Champ' as one of those movies that just had it all that a movie could have.I have to say I enjoyed MMA more than boxing because unlike boxing it is a full body contact sport that seems to come off in a more engaging way and of course the way it was filmed just made you feel like you were in the fight...well certainly living it. If you like stories about the underdog winning then this movie will be just up your street, BUT be prepared to be surprised, the brother you originally feel most sympathetic towards might not be the brother you end up cheering for! Don't make the mistake of not watching this moving because you'd be missing a visual masterpiece which deserves to be watched and enjoyed by as many people as possible because unlike many movies these days, this movie has heart and comes close to perfection as far as I am concerned.

A great fight filmBy Cavedweller (6 reviews) , 27 Nov 2013Really good, really very good, Tom Hardy looks the part to perfection. Never been a real fan of the Rocky films so had no baggage when watching this. Brutal but engaging. 3 great main characters.
Brilliant but too shortBy Aspman (87 reviews) from Scotland , 09 Nov 2013I wasn't sure I'd like this. I'm not an MMA fan or even a particular fan of drama. But this really was very good. There is hardly any dialogue from two of the leads it's all done in looks and body language. There is also so much that isn't said in this film and a lot that isn't clearly resolved. I'd happily have watched another hour of it to tie up the loose ends. Well worth watching and not just for fight fans.
One of the best Fighting filmsBy filmbuff14 (5 reviews) , 21 Oct 2013Excellent film from start to finish. There is a story to it which really makes you feel for the characters plus Tom Hardy is hard as nails! If your a fan of ufc or not you'll enjoy this film, my mam even loved it and she hates fighting. It has something for everyone and appeals to the wider audience its not just a 'lads' fighting film.

Predictable but decentBy Erasedcitizen (19 reviews) , 30 Aug 2013A predictable fight film but that's what makes all great fight films good. Decent and certainly worth a watch ð
a 5 star sports movie, a triumphBy davidginsberg (113 reviews) from London , 29 Jul 2013: finally finished this one off and very glad I saw it as its a proper sports melodrama. Its a fairly standard story of two brothers entering a UFC tournament as outsiders. However this has really high production values and great acting. Nolte is fantastic as the father, ex-alcoholic desperate to make amends to his sons. Tom Hardy gives his best performance as Tommy the ex-marine, deeply troubled brother who destroys his opponents. You also get a more subtle turn from Joel Edgerton as Brendan his brother an ex fighter turned school teacher who turns to the ring again to save his house. Some of the plot here is quite unlikely but you stick with it as the characters really live it. A real 5 star sports movie this which really grabs you. A must watch!
