Spectacular and absolutely flawless!

I am sure there are flaws with this movie, but for me it topped The Fighter, which in my estimation was excellent. This film has got the balance right with everything: the perfect actors were cast for the essential parts, the acting was perfection and the fights were so gripping, I felt like I was the one being thumped and I don't like fighting or MMA. But the fact that the fight scenes were so brilliantly constructed and filmed was necessary to advance the story. To me this is the best film I have seen in ages, because it REALLY reeled me and kept me fully engaged and involved in every way. I was sobbing and cheering at the same time in the end, I've NEVER done that watching any movie! And I think the secret is that the story is so riveting: the most dramatic and heart wrenching scenes happen between the three men in the movies and I found this so amazingly refreshing.The acting or the actors just could not have been better and once again Hardy proves he is an actor that has many layers to him and just keeps on surprising his viewers. To deny his talent would be absurd, cause this actor takes on a role and just creates magic and makes it his own. When you watch him as Tommy his anger is almost palpable when he gets into the cage and fights, in the last fight scene he is anger personified,and you cannot help but be moved. This movie reminded me of 'The Champ' as one of those movies that just had it all that a movie could have.I have to say I enjoyed MMA more than boxing because unlike boxing it is a full body contact sport that seems to come off in a more engaging way and of course the way it was filmed just made you feel like you were in the fight...well certainly living it. If you like stories about the underdog winning then this movie will be just up your street, BUT be prepared to be surprised, the brother you originally feel most sympathetic towards might not be the brother you end up cheering for! Don't make the mistake of not watching this moving because you'd be missing a visual masterpiece which deserves to be watched and enjoyed by as many people as possible because unlike many movies these days, this movie has heart and comes close to perfection as far as I am concerned.- Was this review helpful to you?

It's just NOT Rocky!!

My first real concern arose when I read it described as 'all the rocky films rolled into one'. That's quite the accolade to live up to. In the end it felt like the film was trying to cover quite a broad range of sub-plots in additional to the central plot, in a nutshell it was trying to do too much. What we ended up with is a film with large gaps in the plot and a lack of any real coherency. Some of the gaps are filled with dialogue giving broad brush backgrounds of the main characters but without actually telling the viewer any great detail. The only reason I gave it as many stars as I did is because the fight sequences were reasonabley well put together, although they did stretch credibility a bit ... I can live with that though. In summary, yeah it's ok, no I won't be upset if I never hear of it or see it again, reasonable cast, acting and direction, but no, it's not a patch on the rocky series.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great Film
