Good story....but...
By a customer from Beddington , 22 May 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
I found the cruelty scenes involving the elephant hard to watch.Of course I know no animals were hurt in the making of this film, but watching such graphic scenes of animal cruelty is not something I am used it and it left me unsettled. Chemistry between Rpatz and Reece not very convincing but the story was strong enough to deliver a good film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Circus magic
By a customer , 14 Jun 2013Seldom, in my humble opinion, does a film translate as well as the original book. Water for Elephants however holds all the drama and magic of the read and is wonderfully acted.- Was this review helpful to you?

Do not Watch this Film if you are worried about Animal Cruelty
By a customer , 10 Jun 2013One of the earlier reviewers said that none of the animals were hurt in the making of the movie. This is not certain. The people who trained the animals were filmed treating animals they were training extremely cruelly. the people who trained Tai, the elephant in the film, trained her with cruelty. Animal Defenders International took some covert video of their animal training and it shows several elephants (including Tai) being hit and having electric shocks and a bullhook being used with cruelty; the 'trainer' in the video is the female owner of the outfit, 'Have Trunk Will Travel'. They also loan out Asian elephants to zoos in the USA and two of those zoos have, since seeing the video and having pressure put on them by ADI and PETA, voided their contracts with Have Trunk Will Travel. The HTWT people's response in their defence is so guarded and sliding that it's obvious there is no defence and the video is telling the truth ('None of the footage being shown was taken during Tai's training for Water for Elephants' for example - no one said it was, obviously not given that the video was filmed six years previously...)- Was this review helpful to you?

1hr 50mins I won't get back!
By a customer , 03 Jun 2013I cannot understand the multiple star review ratings in regard to this film. I enjoy a wide range of genres, but this was just boring IMO.- Was this review helpful to you?
