In WE'RE NOT MARRIED, five couples find out that they are not legally married and react in all sorts of different ways (most are pretty overjoyed) in this anthology of comic vignettes. Marilyn Monroe plays a beauty queen whose husband, stuck at home with the baby, sees this turn of events as perfect leverage; Fred Allen and Ginger Rogers are co-hosts of a radio show, whose marriage is purely for ratings; Zsa Zsa Gabor is a ruthless gold-digger trying to get her millionare husband's money; Eve Arden and Paul Douglas are bored but contented ex-New Yorkers; and Eddie Bracken is a soldier who goes AWOL to remarry pregnant Mitzi Gaynor so his kid won't grow up a 'you know what'. Lee Marvin makes a brief appearance as Bracken's army buddy. Victor Moore is the dottering old judge who mistakenly married the couples without authorisation. The various stories all have a happy ending of one sort or another, and the sanctity of marriage survives intact, despite the good-natured ribbing it receives at the hands of director Edmund Goulding (GRAND HOTEL) and producer-writer Nunnally Johnson.

Dipsy governor Victor Moore discovers he's been performing marriages a week before his powers came into effect, so has to write letters to five couples (in varying degrees of marital strain) telling them they're not legally married, and so have to do it all over again... Ginger Rogers and Fred Allen are a feuding public couple doing a daily radio show, David Wayne a reluctant house-husband for ambitious Mrs Mississippi Marilyn Monroe, Paul Douglas tells Eve Arden about his various former lovers, Zsa Zsa Gabor is about to fleece Louis Calhern in divorce, marine Eddie Bracken gets a sudden call to sail when Mitzi Gaynor is due with their child... plenty of laughs and a top notch cast make this classic b&w movie easy to enjoy.
Not surprisingly so I guess, as it was made in the 50's...
I wouldnt want to watch it again!
