[Highly rated reviewer]I like to give everything a chance, but I'm sorry - please, if your life depends on it, DO NOT rent this film. It will drain your very life source it's so bad. I expected more of a film with a scary clown face on the poster and starring Sean Pertwee. It's so so bad it's not even funny. Don't do it to yourself. Please. You'll need to join a self help group if you do.

If it's a clown...hang up!By Davidd (75 reviews) from South London , 23 Jan 2013Sorry - forgive the THRILLER ripoff title. Considering the genesis of this film (20 crude, low low budget micro movies made for mobile phone download, complete with shonky effects deliberately overdone for max impact on a 2 inch screen) I actually quite liked WHEN EVIL CALLS. It's funny (ok, not laugh out loud funny, more situationally funny), takes a leaf out of THE FAST SHOW's if-you-don't-like-this-one-there'll be-another-one-along-in-a-minute delivery, and does well with the variations on the 'Monkey's Paw' theme. Beware - it's not intellectual - naked women play basketball. There's also way too much of Sean Pertwee, playing a drunk caretaker, brought in to push the running time past an hour, and acting as a link to the stories like the Cryptkeeper with Tourettes. But if any of that sounds good to you then you're probably the right person to rent it.
Know what this is before you rent!By Spaceman (4 reviews) from Northumberland , 02 Dec 2010Just thought I'd give people an informative review, rather than simply dismissing it as crap because it doesn't play like a conventional film.
There's a reason for that - it *isn't* a conventional film. It's a compendium of micro shorts based on a 'teens getting killed at school' story, linked together by Sean Pertwee shouting and spitting at the camera. The shorts were meant to be watched on a mobile 'phone, which is why the quality isn't as good as the filmed-later Pertwee links.
Anyway, having said that, a lot of what other reviewers have said is true - some of the acting is appalling, the effects range from convincing enough to laughable, and the DoP had clearly been given a new jib for Christmas, as it's used (badly) in nearly every segment.
But that's not going to stop my 2 stars. It's got Shaun Hutson dressed as a zombie for god's sake! Check out the other films Roberts has directed (to paraphrase Hutson himself - 'if that term can been used legally') if you like micro-budget horrors by people with the balls to just go out there and do it.

oh dearBy TheGreyBlade (22 reviews) from London , 09 Sep 2009oh dear, oh dear - This one is pretty bad, and I've seen KLIMT, i KNOW WHO KILLED ME and CANNIBALS recently so I know of what I speak. Yes its was episodic and yes it was made for another format but really this was apalling in execution, style, content, direction and writing. It was Jake West bad. Just dont bother.
funny!By gemmma (8 reviews) from Glasgow , 05 Sep 2009more funny then horror. something you would find on tv late at night, nothing exciting. worth a watch if your wanting some horror/comedy.
was expecting a movie, was kind of annoying having the guy talk inbetween every 'scene' ... prob could have been a good movie if they had tried a bit better.
