When Lions Roared

Featuring three powerhouse performers, this miniseries centres on three of the most important leaders of the 20th century. Oscar-winner Michael Caine is transformed into the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in an Emmy-nominated performance. Bob Hoskins plays British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, while John Lithgow skillfully inhabits the persona of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. These three giants gather at the Tehran Conference to discuss the Allied drive against Germany, and the possible postwar relationship between the three nations. But their strong personalities clash as they struggle to maintain an alliance, in a script drawn from transcripts and reporting of the event. WORLD WAR II: WHEN LIONS ROARED garnered critical praise and earned six Emmy nominations.
