Where The Day Takes You

Stripped of sentimentality, this film visits homeless teens and young adults who survive on the margins of society. Living by begging, theft and prostitution, this loose-knit community forms an extended family. King (Dermot Mulroney) is the unofficial patriarch looking after the motley crew of addicts and runaways. He especially works hard to keep Greg (Sean Astin), a troubled boy, away from a local drug dealer. But all King's street smarts are not enough to protect his friends from danger. Director Marc Rocco's 1992 film features a dream cast of young actors before they were stars.

Quasi-documentary about kids living rough on the mean streets of Los Angeles. There's a feel of the real in its depiction of the seamy underside, set against the glam and glitzy City of Angels. But the characters never really engage you, and the film's so relentlessly downbeat that you're soon numb to its nastiness. Literally slumming it is a crack cast of Hollywood's younger lions, including Sean Astin, Lara Flynn Boyle, Dermot Mulroney, Balthazar Getty, Kyle MacLachan, Adam Baldwin, Alyssa Milano and Christian Slater.

    An unknown classic

This film was simply great. Watched it after a friend suggested it. Was expecting a typical hollywood 90s look at homeless kids in LA. The story was harsh and gripping and gave me a very realistic look at a cruel lifrstyle. All the cast act very well but Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings Fame) is superb as he portrays the street kid who spirals out of control into a world of drugs. The resolution to his tale is unforgettable. Get this and then tell your friends.

Tough Subject with some good reteric

I didn't really know what to expect of this movie, and while the subject and content of the film i feel was brilliant as it struggled to portrey life on the streets in down town LA. But I found that the film jumps around a lot without fully allowing the audience time to appreciate the impact of what each youth has had to go through, their experiances, and the overall impact of a person that a group of youngster look up to, being too busy shaggin when the melt down begins.

A valid attempt at a strong and difficult subject matter, but not the best I've seen.
