Disappointing adaption
By BenLaw (32 reviews) , 14 Feb 2013I remember being wowed by this book as a small child and then marvelling at the illustrations when a little older. However, in hindsight I have probably never looked at this book as an adult, so maybe my hopes were too high. My recollection is this was a short and sparse book, relying on a child's imagination to fill in the gaps rather than any great narrative. Unfortunately, therefore, there isn't really enough narrative content to flesh out an entire feature film. It does look great (it says something that the original author, Maurice Sendak, was heavily consulted and also very happy with the result) and the acting by the small boy is very good, very poignant. But it's a fairly bleak film, with no great joy or redemption, and therefore missing the fun that a small child might want, and lacking the narrative or character arc that might suit a parent. A real shame, although I suspect this was an impossible job.- Was this review helpful to you?

Terrible, not for little ones
By eskeemo7 (3 reviews) , 03 Feb 2013Unsuitable for young children as it contains violence and explores feelings of isolation and loneliness. Like previous ratings I found it very dull and laborious, certainly not suitable for children under 10. When I saw the trailer I thought it looked great but when I sat down to watch it with my 4 year old I discovered it was totally unlike the trailer. My daughter did want to watch it but I think that was because of the wild things themselves and probably to get ideas on terrorising her mum and dad.- Was this review helpful to you?

A beautiful film
By a customer , 29 Jan 2013I thought this was a really beautiful film. I adored the book when I was a child and could escape into it myself to escape the adults in my life. Perhaps it isn't suitable for all children but then it has a PG rating for a reason - so you watch it first and decide if it is appropriate for your children... I would probably have been a little scared but still loved it as a child. It is such a beautiful story. If you don't enjoy more complex films, you most likely won't enjoy this film.- Was this review helpful to you?
