Most helpful review Whisper Of The Heart

  • Lacks a bit of Miyazaki magic

This is a gentle, heart-warming story about first love and finding your place in the world. Being from Studio Ghibli it is beautifully animated so if you are a fan of Ghibli you won't be dissapointed. However if you are a fan of Miyazaki you might find something to be lacking. This film is based on a Japanese graphic novel not a Miyazaki idea so the usual quirky characters and unique backdrops aren't here. Unusually for this studio it seems to be aimed at young girls and doesn't have that great family film feeling that most of their other films do. Saying that, it must have done very well for them as they produced a sequel of sorts called The Cat Returns which is a story written by the young girl in Whisper of the Heart.

The film is a wonderful sense of life, love, about goals and achievement. It's a perfect story. Crisp animation with a beautiful soundtrack to boot. It's all round pleasant and should be watched by any fan of film in my opinion.

  • Watch it for the animation rather than the story

There's no doubt that this is a really charming film. The animation is wonderful and the story is simple but sweet.

I was disappointed that we saw so little of the Baron. I kept waiting for the fairly mundane story line to turn into the magic that seemed to be promised. I was also little distracted by the dubbing with American accents which seemed to change the tone of the movie.

So, not a fantastic story, but definitely a beautiful thing to look at.

it was a fantastic movie! I was although a little bit confused when Shizuki found a dead chic in the wall of jems but I suppose she was dreaming. I definitly recomend it to your children who are aged around 8 and up.

It was a gentle film a bit boring and long, there was a promise of the baron coming into the story and he didn't.
