Director Michael Curtiz (CASABLANCA, CAPTAIN BLOOD, MILDRED PIERCE) changes directions with this holiday classic. Two talented song-and-dance men team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. The film includes a veritable treasury of Irving Berlin classics: "Sisters," "Blue Skies," and of course "White Christmas." However: even a near 70 year old cannot help comparing the way this film was made 50 years ago and how it would have been made today. Everything looks so dated: the pristine costumes and make up regardless of the circumstances, the horribly 'cardboard' sets, the dreadfully 'ham' performances... in fact, the only thing that has stood the test of time is the quality of the VistaVision original from which the blue-ray disc was made (VistaVision being the High Definition of the cinema in its day). Unfortunately, while the sound is remarkably clear stereo sound had not made it to the cinema and there is not much you can do with a mono original.- Was this review helpful to you?

It's just a lovely Christmassy film with lots of great songs and dance routines. I think it's pointless comparing it to Holiday Inn - White Christmas stands on its own as one of the greatest Christmas films of all time.- Was this review helpful to you?

Vera Ellen's dancing was a joy to watch,
