(15)Unforgettable brilliance.
By a customer , 20 Aug 2012Best film I've seen all year. Edward Hogg is a revelation, even more so after seeing his wondrously sensitive geeky turn in Bunny and the Bull - an actor who is that terrifying and that funny? Huge things await. This is a brave, haunting film from director Dominic Murphy, an intelligent script and Carrie Fisher lights up the screen as the second half of an extraordinary yet utterly believable relationship. As a spiral into madness, this film is up there with the best and although it drives relentlessly to its 18 certificate, it never feels contrived or exploitative. Murphy has found an impeccable cast with not an ounce of 'mad' acting in any of the madness. A hideous story but beautifully told.- Was this review helpful to you?

Uncompromising & Brutal
By 5ft7offootballheaven (300 reviews) from London , 20 Mar 2012Dont think of this as a tap dance movie. Its as far away from Billy Elliot as Empire Strikes Back is from The Phantom Menace.
Savage - would be the word that springs to mind.
The only thing that probably lets the film down is that Edward Hogg (hero / antihero) retains beautiful teeth throughout the entire film. As my brother pointed out this is 'unlikely'. I agree.
Not an uplifting film by any stretch but superb film making.- Was this review helpful to you?

Jaw-droppingly wonderful!
By Sam Hampson from Leeds , 18 May 2011I looked this film up after seeing and loving Ed Hogg in Bunny & The Bull, wanting to know what else he'd done. What i found was a brilliantly dark, often funny and affectionate film that i found impossible to become distracted from. Ed Hogg's portrayal of Jesco White is utterly captivating & mesmerising - extremely difficult to take your eyes away from him as he pulls you into his take on White's world. Carrie Fisher plays a stunning part opposite Ed Hogg too. I've watched White Lightnin' twice now and both times have come away as the credits roll, wide-eyed and silent and content in the knowledge that i've just witnessed what should be a film on every serious movie fan's must see list. Ed Hogg is one we need to watch. He's destined for greatness, that one. Watch it.- Was this review helpful to you?
