In this in New Mexico-set thriller, deputy sheriff Willem Dafoe becomes involved in mega-black doings when he discovers half-a-million mysterious dollars in a suitcase belonging to a dead FBI agent. Roger Donaldson's direction loses focus when Dafoe meets up with arms dealer Mickey Rourke and his society girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, while the plot's twists and turns become inextricably entangled, but there's still enough intriguing action to keep us involved.

I borrowed this because I have seen Mastrantonio in 'Limbo' and wanted to see some of her other films.
I wasn't disappointed with this one either.
It begins when Dafoe, an ordinary deputy sheriff, is called in to investigate the death of an FBI agent.
Dafoe assumes the persona of the dead man and gets himself involved in a fast moving 'cops and robbers' adventure. Various pairs of men turn up claiming to be FBI and CIA but as a viewer, I was never sure which lot - if any - to believe. I don't want to add any more to the plot or it would spoil it.
Everything about this film from the direction, setting, filming, music and acting was excellent and kept us 'involved' for the whole 97 minutes.
Dafoe, Mastrantonio and Mickey Rourke were the three main characters and all were very believable in their roles.
Must look for more from this team.
Wilem Dafoe's acting talent is unquestionable here. He's not your mainstream pretty boy leading man but oozes charisma by the bucketloads. The movie builds up momentum like a London Underground train and gives you enough jerks and shakes to keep you interested. A good support cast assists him.
