Who Do You Think You Are - Fantastic Show
By Elaine Calderwood from Kilmarnock, Scotland , 22 Oct 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
I have been researching my husband's family tree for many years now and it was great to see a programme showing how this research is done and how they have added more information than just the birth death and marriage of a family member.
We carry out some of our research in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow (where Jeremy Paxman was featured in his show). In there we find our relatives in the Poor Records and these records are so enlightening as they are added to each time a person makes a claim for money therefore a whole family history can be seen from these records.
For example they show how many children there were each time a claim is made. It details whole families including the parents of the claimants and where they were born. A lot of my relatives were born in Ireland so this show confirms for us exactly where in Ireland.
There are also great revelations i.e. when the wife made a claim because the husband was in jail.
This programme also fills in all these kind of interesting details.
I love watching all the shows and got the DVD's because I missed the first ones and it is great to see them.
This collection of DVD's is a must for those who are interested in researching their family tree but it is also just interesting to see what the researchers uncovered about the ancestors of the celebrities on the show as their birth places will coincide with those of many of the viewer and pertains to their lives too.
I hope they keep making this show as I wait each year for the next batch to be aired.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)Who Do You Think You are? Season 1
By a customer from LONDON , 31 Dec 2008We loved this series. As non-Brits, this how has been instrumental in helping us to understand a great deal about UK history and immigration to the UK. It is marvelously entertaining and educational. The only one in the series that we didn't like was Jeremy Clarkson but then again we aren't fans of his in general.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer from Birmingham , 21 Nov 2008I have found the whole series of' who do you think you are ' wonderful viewing and have been transported with each story ,have been moved to tears and laughed with some of the exploits of others. I would recommend these dvds to everyone and I feel that they should be shown in schools enabling those to understand our social history , not only the Uk and Ireland but also the the whole world.- Was this review helpful to you?

Grabs you attention
By JT1 (2 reviews) from Brighton , 06 Sep 2008Having just caught some episodes on TV and found them gripping I rented the others. The series is a warts and all and proves to a degree we all come from various place and countries in the past. having started reserching my history I have come from at least 3 countries and I thought I was English as Breakfast tea, and i have only gone back 2 generations. It's a great series and a must for the curious!- Was this review helpful to you?
