Watched at the Rex, Berkhamsted

The EV1 was a much loved vehicle in California before it was removed by General Motors around 2003 in an attempt to fight back against the authorities who wanted to force the manufacturers to produce a percentage of cars with zero emissions. A very well produced documentary highlighting the significant dates in the campaign to remove the SMOG threatening to engulf us all. The various parties incl some significant politiicians (Good old Jimmy!) that could be held accountable are all reviewed during the course of the programme. Were the big oil companies so scared of the risk of battery power to swoop in and take advantage of the manufacturers reservations? I just hope we see a big change very soon before my bicycle falls apart or I am chocked to death - well done to the producers and to our local REX for putting on the show!- Was this review helpful to you?

(59)Interesting yet Irritating.
By Devilineden (1 review) , 04 Dec 2012Interesting, but the people who wish to pursue the EV cars ( on the DVD ) are a pain in the butt. Bored rich Americans with nothing better to do - you know the type...- Was this review helpful to you?

The usual suspects guilty once again
By Exitpursuedbyabear (19 reviews) , 30 Aug 2012Although this is an excellent and entirely worthy documentary, the problem is that its impact is somewhat dulled by the fact that, once again, the usual suspects are found with blood on their hands. Reagan, Dubya, General Motors and the oil industry - every time I watch a documentary on a similar subject, its always them.
The utter stupidity of the voting American has to be marvelled at for willfully maintaining their support for Reagan and Dubya, and their incestuous relationship with corporate America. Do the Yanks walk round entirely obsessed with short-term profit? What is it about the environmental lobby they are so frightened of? Will the big players of the US never admit that they might possibly be making a toilet out of the planet while they do their best to stamp out all the people with some kind of sense? Can the American public not see that someone sitting on the board of a major company may very well have a vested interest in that company's profit margin? Do American public officials not have to declare an interest in a company before they sit on public board and make a decision that might benefit that company?
Yes, you will shake your head in disgust, but there are only so many times you can watch these documentaries without realising you know the answers before you have even started watching it.- Was this review helpful to you?

well it charged me up
By Avanti (36 reviews) , 30 Jun 2012Goes to prove that ripping customers off is more important to business than contributing to social/technological progress. We need more revelations like this for other aspects of our consumer lifestyles- Was this review helpful to you?

An interesting tale of corporate greed
By Stigweird85 (4 reviews) , 03 Nov 2011I would like to think that there is an aspect of carefully editing and storytelling to this 'documentary' otherwise it shows just how messed up our world is.- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent, well thought out documentary
By tulip_smile (12 reviews) , 22 Oct 2011While some documentaries can be very dry, this one is entertaining. Also, probing more deeply, there is a public call to action. Big Oil, politics, the corrupt automotive industry, and the sheeple allow it all to happen.- Was this review helpful to you?
