This Part of the 3 day IOW festival way back in 1970 had some incredable Acts. The Who, so I have heard wanted to make this a memorable preformance as they were crap at Woodstock.
Here are the Who with Keith Moon and John Entwhistle, The real Who.
Keith Moon plays his heart out on the drums, and when you are watching a man who was one of the best drummers the world has seen, then its got to be good.
Pete Townsend, the Brains behind the Who is at his peak on Guitar, John Enwhistles costume could drive you nuts, but what a base player. As for Roger Daltry, brilliant.
I enjoyed it so much I went out and brought the DVD. When you see musicians binding like this with split second timing, enjoying what they are doing you know its going to be good.
This is the only way I want to see the Who, I also ordered The Who's, The Vegas Job. Theres no comparison and could only watch 5 minutes of it. All that energy had gone. Like myself they are old men(no to old) however they are my generation.
I do wish Roger and Pete would stop now, and let us can remember what a really good band they were.(No money in that)
Its can never be the same when half of you band has died.( Do they need the money?) Come on call it a day.
The Isle of White festival is hailed by many people as one of, if not the best Who gig ever.
The event was indeed special due to the huge line up including Mr Jimmy Hendrix.
There was certainly a haze around the memorys of the time which may have clouded some peoples judgement? In my opinion the Charlton Athletic event was better.
This DVD is worth a look but the 30 YEARS MAXIMUM R&B DVD is alot better and has footage from most of the big gigs including The I.O.W & some Stateside.
