OK But Not Great

Kenan and....Wiener. Wheres kel?

A cross between a Road trip movie (where three friends through a variety of troublesome Situations find more about themselves and become closer) and Kenan and Kel, only problem it’s missing Kel.

There are so many films about Journeys by a bunch of Friends. Weather its comedy, Drama or Fantasy. It’s a common used plot outline, Shrek, Lord of the Rings, Stand by Me, Brother where art thou, Dogma, Harold and Kumar get the munchies...etc.

Some of these films are great others not. Generally the group of friends are searching for treasure or have a mission to get back their love or are seeking revenge against all odds they must reach their destination and along the way they have a moment where they fall out and in the end come back to help out each other, usually there’s a women or character who is the catalyst of them falling apart and that character gets exposed in the end.

Wieners fits into the above description comfortably, it’s a comedy about Kenan and Kel’s (Kenan Thompson) Wyatt who loves Hot dogs and after failing to get an Internship as a Hot dog Vender, using the money he’s saved builds his own Wiener Mobil. After his Best Friend is Humiliated by a Talk show Host they set out on a mission to beat the crap out of the Talk show host, on the way selling Wieners and falling into lots of awkward and somewhat funny situations.

The film is Mediocre at best in comparison to the general Teen Road trip movie its what you expect, its better than the comedy likes of Epic movie, and Date Movie which go into the Teen comedy category but overall isn’t a great comedy, the saving grace is Kenan Thompson who has that same persona and reactions we’re familiar from Kenan and Kel.

This film suits Kenan and Kel fans and anyone who’s got nothing better to do but I wouldn’t buy it. It’s a one time watch and laugh film, but nothing more, overall enjoyable but I doubt anyone past the age of 19 would really sit down and watch it. If you’re a fan of other road trip films like Harold and Kumar and Road trip this is a film you’ll feel right at home at, the rest of you, if you at home board you could do a lot worst than watching this film.

Had it been a movie about Kenan and Kel crossing America in a Wiener Van, it would have been better, but Kenan without Kel is like Jelly without Ice cream, its ok but not great.
