Ever wondered what hip-hop culture is all about? Look no further than director Charlie Ahearn's accurate representation of the scene, starring legendary New York graffiti artist “Lee” Georges Quinones. Forget the plot — how the “Next Big Thing” in the art world copes with the pressures of success and the strain it puts on his relationships — the reason why this movie is considered the Saturday Night Fever of the B-boy brigade is due to the documentary feel of the break dancing, the freestyle MC-ing, the Rocksteady Crew in performance, the basketball rapping and rare scratch-mixing footage of Grand Master Flash, a godfather of rap. A memorable movie that preserves the true essence of early hip-hop for all time.

    Hip Hop Infancy

True, the acting is poor, the production is lacking and the plot is terrible. But bear in mind the actors are real players from New York's Hip Hop scene in it's infancy and this movie has justification. The Old Skool DJing and rap styles seem hilarious now and the graffiti and breaking are nothing on what we can see nowadays but this movie really allows you to see the early days of the 4 elements of Hip Hop developing around each other.

IF U WHAT 2 KNOW THE SCORE

I SEE THIS WHEN IT CAME OUT,I WAS A BREAKER, ONLY 8 YEARS OLD IT BLEW ME AWAY AS THERE WAS NO FOOTAGE OF EARLY HIPHOP. THIS WILL SHOW U THE TRUE MEANING OF HIPHOP,RAPPING ,BREAKING,,GRAFFTI,,SCRATCHING.

THE ACTING WAS POOR BUT IT AINT ABOUT THE ACTING, SOME OF THE BITS IN IT ARE TRUE HISTORY. FAB 5 FREDDY,GRANDMASTER FLASH, DOUBLE TROUBLE ARE SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT U SEE PERFORMING.

WELL WORTH CHECKING OUT. BUT I WOULD CHOOSE BEAT STREET WHICH IS THE PERFECT TRUE HIP HOP FILM.
