A hilarious satire of 1950's television in which an ad man desperately tries to get a beautiful movie star to endorse his agency's new product. Rock Hunter's job is on the line because his agency has been threatened with losing its Stay-Put Lipstick account. To save his career, Hunter makes an all-out attempt to convince actress Rita Marlow to advertise the product. His efforts achieve hilarious results but also threaten to destroy his engagement to his fiancee, Jenny. After he successfully gets Marlow on board, his commercials become a big success and he even manages to win the love of the gorgeous star. But what price will Rock's triumph in the world of advertising have on his life?
