We both liked this one!!By a customer from Dorset , 08 Jun 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]This is a coming - of -age treat. The film is set during the German occupation of a small Dutch town in the harsh winter months of early 1945 (hence the rather banal title). The story starts in the local woods, where two young friends find a wrecked plane. It follows the consequences of this discovery on the lives of the family of one of the boys and ends with the town's eventual liberation. The acting is convincing throughout and 'Winter in Wartime' rises above the usual cliches of this genre with the high standard of photography and pacing.

Surprisingly good film.By Barbourini (1 review) , 08 Nov 2013Having stumbled upon this film, I wasn't quite sure what it would be like. I have to say it moved me from start to finish. A lovely story, with great acting by all. Had me in tears at a couple of points and nice little twist at the end. I was really attached to the lead character ' Michiel' from start to finish. Great actor.
excellent.... one of the best!!!!By a customer , 26 Oct 2013This is maybe one of the best films I have seen in 2013. It is engaging from start 'til finish and it manages to reinvent itself throughout to maximise its dramatic effect. Utterly brilliant. Manages to deal well with the messy business of collaboration vs rebellion in 1945 Holland, all through the format of a bildungsroman. Fantastic !!! More more more !!!
Excellent Coming of age movieBy a customer , 02 Sep 2013The European film industry keeps making top end films. This drama set in the final winter of WW11 set in Holland and focuses on a boy and his growing up in war time. As he helps an airman to escape the Nazi occupiers. A must rent
Good movieBy a customer , 14 Aug 2013Cracking film. Really enjoyed it , nice little twist at the end. Good cast, very well acted and a good script
Great antidote to Hollywood WW2 blockbusters!By Mokky (21 reviews) , 25 Jun 2013An excellent thoughtful film, nothing like your average WW2 film. Beautifully filmed, the snow seemed to make it all the more vivid, and the slow pace left time to reflect on what it must have been like living in a small occupied town back in 1945. Dilemmas like - who can you trust? Are the lines between good and evil clearcut or blurred? Not easy questions for 15 year old Michael to answer.
