WipEout HD

Originally available as a PSN download, now on disc. Why aren't there more reviews raving about this game?!

This is not an easy game at the beginning, especially if you are new to the series. You will crash and be frustrated at the start but if you be patient and keep going, you will appreciate how great game this is. It was a good decision by Studio Liverpool to add pilot assist to ease you into the game. The game is challenging but never unfair or impossible, you will improve with every playthrough and things will soon click.

This is one of the few games you can wax lyrical about it and you are justified in doing so. Even those watching you play will be mesmerised by the graphics and sense of speed. There has been a lot of effort poured into making this game, the details on the ships and tracks, the sound changing when going through a tunnel, the hum of the shields, how your ship follows the camber of a track if you slow down rather than just be static. You will discover other little touches which just adds to the experience. You can choose your own music as well, which is a cool option, although the music used suits the game very well.

The Fury expansion has modes to blow other people up, sci-fi style bomb shooting and a Tron-esque zone mode racing. Online is great fun and adds to the replay value. I know this will be compared with F-Zero (a great game in its own right) but we aren't talking about that. Wipeout HD stands alone and is brilliant, it has its own rightful place in futuristic racers. This game would justify a ps3 purchase, it's really that good.

It comes down to this, Wipeout HD is great value, has lots of challenges, trophies, replay value and a great online mode. You go very fast, do barrel rolls, shoot at opponents, and it looks and sounds awesome.

Just wondering why this game is. not available to rent as i know it has been released?? When will i be able to rent this game??

Firstly, This is a very good looking game! It runs in full HD (1080p) at a consistant 60 frames per second, Meaning that while being a very VERY fast game, Its also very clear and motion blur is minimal. During races you are able to pause the game to take photos, which can then be used as a background on your PS3s Cross Media Bar (XMB).

You can play your own music while playing the game using a playlist on your PS3, The music is activated in the games Audio menu. Things like jumps, damage, crashes and boosts effect the music, giving it a much more immersive feel.

It comprises of 2 single player campaigns, The original WipEout HD campaign, And the extra WipEout HD Fury campaign (which was once downloadable as an extra to the game, but is now combined on the disc). HD Fury adds more game modes, Such (but not limited to) as elimination, Where you get points for destroying opponents, And the first to reach the top score wins, And it also adds new vehicles bodies, skins and tracks.

All of the greatness of WipEout HD is also playable online on PSN.

Whilst this will be greatly loved by racing fans, It can also be enjoyed by anyone, weather a casual, or hardcore gamer.
