A high-spirited tale of a rebellious teenage girl in 1950s Britain who energetically flouts the repressive sexual mores of her working-class seaside town. 16-year-old Lynda enjoys shocking her neighbours with her foul mouth and lascivious behaviour, but underneath her flamboyantly cheeky facade is a lonely girl still suffering from the loss of her mother at an early age. No one in the town understands Lynda's desperate need to challenge conventions -- least of all Lynda's widowed dad. When Lynda's reckless sexual adventures lead her into a dangerous relationship with an unsavoury older man, her father is powerless to stop her.

Emily Lloyd's startling debut as the sexually defiant seaside teenager prevents writer/director David Leland's 1950s-set comedy drama from being just another rebellious youngster movie. Her vibrant performance as the 16-year-old whose intention is to shock everyone begs the question; why has her career since, failed to make any impact? There's also strong support from Tom Bell in a decidedly unsympathetic role as a lecherous family friend. Leland harks back to the early days of luncheon voucher madam Cynthia Payne, also the inspiration behind his script for the same year's Personal Services.
Noted chiefly for its central performance, this is a film full of telling detail and compassion, despite its apparently defiant mood.
A gem of a movie - completely captivating from the start. Emily Lloyd is marvellous and perfect as the splendidly rebellious Lynda. While not exactly a kind or 'nice' person Emily Lloyd's Lynda is irresistably likeable.
A strong supporting cast contribute faultless performances. While not a story that can be described as a thrill-a-minute, there isn't a dull flagging moment throughout. Watch this one when you can give it your full attention - its definitely worth it.
After this film, you would have thought Emily Lloyd would have gone from strength to strength, as this was a stunning debut. Where she went from here was not very far, as she seemed to disappear and had some personal problems from what I can gather.
The film itself has stuck in my memory for over 15 years and I dont want to spoil it by watching it again.
Basically the film is about a young girl who is bored with living with her dad in a dreary seaside resort in the 50s.She gets to the point where sex is on her mind and she is determined to find out whats it all about. She starts to have an affair with a dirty old man played by Tom Bell and teases the hell out of all the local teenage boys.
This is at times a very touching film, but very funny as well, especially the scene in the posh tearoom.
This is a film for teenagers upwards as it is sometimes blunt with the references to sex.
Samuel L Jackson and Hayden Christensen are to work together again in a new crime thriller. The duo, who appeared in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge Of The Sith, will now be in Poker Night, to be directed by Nick Gillard, one of the Star Wars stunt coordinators. Christensen is reportedly trying to build on the success of starring in George Lucas' films and avoid the fate of previous Star Wars star Mark Hamill who failed to find much work after he... Read more
