Total genius
By Moose from Greater London , 12 Jan 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
What a wonderful piece of work. Richard E Grant is fantastic as the cowardly alcoholic slob with a casual disregard for others, and the rest of the cast combine to make this a wonderfully enjoyable, fantastically funny piece of film, enjoyable by almost everyone on almost every level. Not one for the kids, obviously, hence the ratings tag and the bad language, but definitely one to make you laugh. Over and over again.- Was this review helpful to you?

(271)What a let down
By OscarFreak (417 reviews) from London , 06 Apr 2013I was disappointed with this film, despite the hype I found it dull, inept and the only saving grace was the cameo roles played by Richard Griffiths and Michael Elphick. Age has not been kind to it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Unrelieved grunge
By NewPremier (1 review) , 05 Apr 2013Why 'Celebrated comedy'? Surely comedy has to contain WIT? The only thing remotely approaching comedy was the attempted seduction. Agreed, some people find unrelieved grunge and grot amusing. Perhaps this reflects their own lives and attitudes. I'm only glad that I didn't pay cinema prices to see this film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Superb performances and scripting
By NeechBear (1 review) , 18 Jan 2013Some truly genius scripting and world class performances in this film. If you're a popcorn-guzzling Hollywood blockbuster fan in your 20s then you're far less likely to appreciate this movie. If on the other hand you revel in realistic dialogue, a plot that doesn't have to go anywhere obvious and revel in the awkwardness of human nature, then this is for you.- Was this review helpful to you?
