Terrific. Unbelievably gory and unbearably tense.
A bit of a slow burner, but worth the wait. The story revolves around three backpackers, who are travelling across Australia. They decide to visit a meteor crater, where their car fails to start leaving them stranded in the middle of the Australian outback. There is some great acting, and the tension is brilliantly built up with the eerie atmosphere. This film has been likened to the Blair Witch Project, and I can see the connection with the genuine fright the characters demonstrate. I also feel that the way the story comes together, has a bit of 'My Little Eye' about it. The film is unclear as to whether the events are true, making this film even more scary. A must for horror fans! GO WATCH THIS FILM!!!
From the reviews of Wolf Creek at the time of release, i was expecting it to make me barf up a lung, or a two. What i got was Crocodile Dundee 4: Mick Goes Psycho. Actually, that may have been better given a good didgeridoo joke here or there.. Anyway, imagine watching the Blair Witch Project but just when you imagination is starting to generate your nightmares of the future, someone in a bad monster suit comes out of the woods and goes "Boo! I'm a witch me!".
A redeeming factor of this movie is, that given some serious editing (say cut out about an hour or so) you would have a beautiful piece for Sky Travel?! The outback looks awesome, and is nicely filmed. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie gets in the way.
The acting performances are ok, but there is an underlying sense of inexperience in the pacing and cutting of the scenes. The plot unfortunately holds no suprises, and i mean NONE, and as for a stomach churning climax... (if you're still waiting after the credits have rolled, i'm afraid thats it)
All in all, should you ever find yourself recovering from laser eye treatment and needing to close your eyes for long pain relieving periods of time, this could be the movie for you.
Those who enjoy the charms of gore-fest films such as Hostel could be pleased to hear that a sequel to the ultra-violent movie has been scheduled for release on June 8th 2007. Hostel Part II promises to be just as grisly as the first instalment, which featured a group of young backpackers who get rather more than they bargained for during a trip to Slovakia. Empire Online reports that as well as increased blood and guts, the sequel will also up the psychological themes and feature two... Read more
