I am not familiar with this opera and of course the music is typical Mozart. It is amusing, very good singing, some scenes are rather long and a bit boring. Not really my sort of viewing but quite entertaining and a good production.- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)Mozart unfortunately modernised.

My present copy of this opera dates from 1988, and needless to say the quality of sound and picture cannot match that on this disc. However the production is a different matter. My present disc is I believe more in keeping with Mozart original view, as it is in the costumes of the 18th century, and is much more colourful as a result. I must say that the modern day costumes did not convey a Mayor, a Count, and a Marchesa. Nor did the three garden frames form a garden in my opinion, and certainly not one to occupy two pretend gardeners. This opera is not one of Mozart's finest, and I cannot say I could recall an aria as you could in say the Magic Flute. It is however pleasant enough, though overlong with to much dialogue either with or without music. The cast is alright but could have been improved upon, it did have one of the best conductors however. One strange occurance to note, why did the maid climb a ladder to sing from one of boxes?- Was this review helpful to you?
