Wolfhound (Not as bad as feared)
By laffinnome (1 review) from Leeds , 21 Mar 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
I really did enjoy this film. Part of that is probably due to the fact that I have been a big fan of the genre for many years (heck i grew up with films like Conan and Hawk the Slayer)
That being said, you would probabaly expect me to rate it higher than i did. However, while the film was enjoyable (thanks to a reasonably good script well acted) and money had obviously been spent making it (carting a film crew around in the wilds anywhere is gonna cost money!) I couldn't help but wish that just a little bit more had been spent on the editing. The film feels as though it should have been longer. Not by much I hasten to add but just a bit. There were a couple of times in the film where it seemed to jump. Almost as if they had made the film they wanted to but then had found out they needed to lose an extra five minutes and, unfortunately, had let someone, not originaly involved with the film, take them out with no real consideration of the viewer and how it might affect the story.
In truth it doeasn't really detract from the story but it did leave it feeling a little... disjointed.
.
In summation: If you like the genre you'll like this. If however this is your first forray in to the genre please dont judge it too harshly (and then go and watch the first Conan film )- Was this review helpful to you?

(10)Russian cinema at its best!
By Sharlock (13 reviews) , 06 May 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
First a caveat: there are certain elements of fantasy stories that will always be familiar, and many of them are to found in this film. We're not breaking new ground here... However, what we are doing is covering well trodden ground with a certain panache. I was expecting something along the lines of what I got; the film doesn't pander to Hollywood expectations, although it would sit well alongside anything the Americans would produce. As for the acting, slated somewhat by some other reviewers, I didn't see any problems with it. The lead actor absolutely looked the part, and seeing Oksana Akinshina in a starring role gives a full appreciation of what she can do, something barely glimpsed in the epilogue of The Bourne Supremacy, the only other time I've seen her. The special effects have also been criticised here. I think that's unfair. Movies of this type rely so heavily now on CGI wizardry (no pun intended) that the slightest crack in the skill of the creator is picked apart by spoiled viewers with no appreciation of the art. As for me, I felt the effects were up to standard and did the job well. Will I watch this film again? Absolutely. Would I be excited to hear of a sequel? Absolutely. Do I think it's worth five stars? Absolutely!- Was this review helpful to you?

Didnt care enough
By Dungbeetle (503 reviews) from London , 07 Aug 2010Russian film with subtitles. The set pieces were good but the story was rather disjointed and there was a lack of empathy towards the hero.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not even funny how poor this is.
By a customer from London, England. , 12 Jul 2010Sometimes movies suffer from poor effects or bad acting or lame story but charm their way into your regard. Not in this case, Wolfhound is an epic failure of a movie. In particular, half the vocalisations in this film are grunts or moans during the tragically poor fight scenes. Crazy long scenes of travel, be it by horse or the bat flying across mountains. Even at 8X speed they were boring. No redeeming features whatsoever.- Was this review helpful to you?

very poor!
By a customer from Luton , 12 Jul 2010I was extremely disappointed in this movie. I knew it wasn't meant to be a blockbuster but I thought it might have been along the lines of Outlander as suggested in the other review. The quality of acting and fight scenes are pathetic, and the storyline does not make up for the shortfalls. It was so bad we had to turn it off about 30-40 minutes into the movie.- Was this review helpful to you?
