Fun movie
By YorkshireYank from South Yorkshire , 04 Jun 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Fun movie, but maybe not Almodovar's best. (See "Talk To Her" or "All About My Mother" for the director at the top of his form.)
By the way, if you prefer subtitles to dubbing, this DVD offers both and you can choose which you want. Don't be put off by the 'Dubbed' label in the description.- Was this review helpful to you?

(57)A case for dubbing??
By stewbob (6 reviews) , 07 May 2013I wonder if more Hispanic blood might be necessary to find this as funny as we were lead to believe it would be. Some great scenes, clever funny shots, hilarious one liners, but we need to learn Spanish, 'cos some of the references were difficult to take in whilst reading the subtitles at the same time - dubbing might have helped actually, though we normally dislike it. Might be fitting too, if done well.- Was this review helpful to you?

Well worth seeing again and again
By a customer , 26 Jan 2013I first saw this film on Spanish TV, loved it then and still do. It is hilarious and I ended up getting my own copy on tape.- Was this review helpful to you?

Witty and funny
By a customer , 13 Mar 2012I was very surprised to read some poor reviews of this film as I enjoyed it very much. It is certainly light and frivolous and this might not appeal to some Almodovar fans, but then surely it does not set out to be anything else. I think it should be relished for what it is, extremely witty and very funny. It made me laugh more than any other film has for some time.- Was this review helpful to you?

Utterly tedious kitsch
By a customer from Shropshire , 15 Feb 2012Mention the name 'Pedro Almodovar' to many British film-goers and the name causes something of a swoon. He has produced a few entertaining films. 'Women on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown' is not one of them. It's plot is thin, it's very weak slap-stick, and visually the film is a grotesque and brightly-coloured kitsch mess. It is nonsense suitable only for Spanish afternoon television. However, I expect that in 1985 'Women on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown' was something of a breakthrough in nascent Spanish cinema. In 2012, however, I found it totally horrendously disengaging, from start to finish.- Was this review helpful to you?

Sadly, not exactly what I expected
By kasiah (2 reviews) , 16 Jan 2012I read a lot of great reviews about this movie and, as an Almodovar's fan, I was looking forward to see it. It is funny (fun to see a very young and geeky Antonio Banderas in a very unlikely for him casting), colorful, full of odd and silly twists and turns and wacky details (like a sleeping pills spiked gazpacho), good acting. But overall, I must sadly say, I was dissapointed. I tried to enjoy it, but it just didn't feel like a film that would stick with me or effect me the way 'All about my mother', Talk to her' or 'Matador' did. Maybe I need to see it a second time.- Was this review helpful to you?
