Gritty, downbeat, working-class drama in which London features as a harsh and soulless place where lives goes awry without anyone caring very much.

    Strangely compelling...

I love this film but find it hard to explain why!

I can imagine that you either love it or find it very boring indeed.

It follows the lives of a few ordinary Londoners, their ups and downs and their struggle to make sense of life in the big Smoke...

I found it very refreshing in that it gives a very realistic view of London and its inhabitants, without falling into the trap of over-glamourising the city (the truly cringeworthy 'Love Actually' springs to mind) or cheeky chappie East End gangster stories a la Lock, Stock.

It's just a touching little movie about the daily struggles we all encounter...

    Give it a try!

    Bleak

Snapshot of a few working class Londoners doing their best to survive in an uncaring city. Drugs, drink, illicit unsatisfying sex, poverty - all combine within their bleak lives. It's not the most entertaining of movies but quite revealing in an uncomfortable sort of way. The whole of the cast are totally convincing especially the young boy who takes centre stage, surprisingly good turn from Keira Knightley too. Gritty but not a lot of fun!
