Oh, for the good old days of 1969, when you could get a third of a million people into a field and not have a (seemingly) hint of trouble, whilst listening to some great (but not always) music.
Interesting to see that Scorsese was cutting his directorial teeth on some of the film, with interesting and pretty innovative dual shots. Some quite boring interviews with the punters (God were we all so earnest in those days?). The crowning event is of course Hendrix in his final throws as a human being, before he became a legend. Wow, could that man play guitar - it was like an extension of him, almost like a second voice coming out of his fingers.
Beautiful.
What a great film I really enjoyed it
I was impressed with this dvd because not only did it have great (live) music from this era; it also interviews spectators and how the whole thing was organised.
The first open air free concert USA 1969.

I enjoyed some parts i.e. Jimi Hendrix and The Who to some extend. Unfortunately this good event is now so outdated. Still...

however more performances should have been included and by god the credits last 25 minutes and you cannot skip them!
Ahh takes me back to when I used to go to Glastonbury. You need to be a music festival fan to enjoy this.. which I am - it's like being there without the mud!!
THIS IS AN ECELLENT DVD SHOWING SOME OF THE BEST BANDS AROUND OVER THE YEARS WELL WORTH WATCHING CLASSICS LIKE JIMMY HENDRIX THE WHO JANICE JOPLIN
This really takes you back to a time when people were into music for the right reasons. The film really shows the commitment that went into this historical event and you get a real sense of the very basic (as opposed to glitzy) yet real way it was put together - not for money or greed and led by the marketing freaks but by real people. The hippy language will really get up your nose ... man ...!
IT HAS GOT TO HAVE BEEN THE BIGGEST PARTY IN THE WORLD .
This is a brilliant dvd, the performances by Hendrix and the Who are superb. There are a few drawbacks however, with about 50% of Hendrix's performance taken up by footage of people cleaning up after the show and also there is no footage of the grateful dead's performance. However, well worth the rentage charge.
For people of a certain age, 'Woodstock' will be remembered as a great film about a great music festival. But, whether by accident or design, it actually captures more than just the spirit of the occasion - there is an underlying feeling that the festival is actually just the tip of a much greater movement for change in (American) society. Its a film, and a time, well worth re-visiting!
