Preaching to the Converted

The Blu-ray version of this film is more than twice the length of the theatrical release which is a great bonus for fans but be warned that this is pretty much a hymn of praise and more critical engagement with Allen's films and or / personal life would have been welcome.
I enjoyed the film but mainly for the clips. For a more engrossing study of Woody Allen the man, Wild Man Blues is recommended as a better film (focusing on his love of music rather than film). For fans, this is a pleasant three hours but the Ken Burns style panning and scanning suffered some irritating blurring and many edits were noticeably clumsy. Perhaps a better director could have done more justice to the material but on this occasion the best director in the room worked exclusively in front of the camera.- Was this review helpful to you?

Almost three hours of clips and interviews it was a real treat to a lover of all things woody. I even watched all the extra features and it was good to look at all the old film clips again. Worth a watch!!!
By PVCPoodle (16 reviews) , 07 Mar 2013Great documentary. Would have to admit in the past I have only limited my viewing to the more comedy type films, but due to the insight provided in this documentary have hired some of his other films which have just fueled my adoration. Super!!! Love Woody even more than i did before.- Was this review helpful to you?

Quietly Interesting
By AnitaLouise (12 reviews) from Belfast , 04 Mar 2013Love this genius of this screen and do find myself hanging off his words. This documentary is quietly interesting. It didnt tell me much and I didnt know much about the man. A viewer needs to watch his films to find elements of his biography.- Was this review helpful to you?

Everything you wanted to know about Woody Allen but were afraid to ask
By Suecarroll (2 reviews) from Plymouth , 27 Feb 2013This documentary tells you everything you need to know about Woody Allen. Very entertaining and thorough and you learn a lot more about Woody's life and career than from any of his biographies here. It also gives very rare interviews with Allen himself, old and new and reminds us what a private person he is, like when walking down the streets of New York wearing a hat but still being recognised! There are plenty of interesting interviews with family, friends and co-stars from the films, telling viewers what he's like as a person and a director. Not to mention plenty of clips from said films. Definitely one of the best documentary films of the past year centering on a celebrity and filmed astutely by director Robert B. Weide (TV's Curb Your Enthusiasm). To Woody with love, sums up this docu-film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good insight into Allen's way of thinking!
By a customer , 24 Jan 2013This is an interesting documentary about Allen's films and also generally about the process of making films and getting into comedy writing. I got the Blu Ray version and found it quite long. Half an hour less would have been sufficient.- Was this review helpful to you?
