SO LONG BEEN GOOD TO KNOW YA

the dvd is very interesting and is worth watching if you are interested in the music and politics of woody guthrie.

It exposes the great traumas that undoubtedly helped shape the man and his music/ writings...

The reason I gave this only 3 stars is that it suffers the fate of most documentaries on musicians and bands, there is scant little of woody guthrie's own words or singing... there are snippets from one film recording, but that is cut short and narrated over - so annoying...

The dvd would have been balanced with extras (at least) of the woody guthrie interviews that again we hear snippets of. Also any film footage that is available.

I can only assume that will be released at a later date if you catch my drift? not really in the spirit of woody?

Anyway, if you have an interest it is worth a watch and there are some heartfelt commentaries...

Keep your handkerchief at the ready

    enjoy!
