    Unmoving and cliched

Oliver Stone is not known for making subtle films but even by his standards this is bombastic and cliched. Some truly dreadful moments - especially in the flashback scenes and any scene featuring the marine where the script is toe curling. He evens resorts to visions of Jesus and the final scenes where Stone tries to make links between 9/11 and Iraq is unforgiveable. The only reason to see this film is for the terrific sound effects when the buildings collapse. If you want to see a moving film about the tragedy and heroism of that terrible day see Flight 93.

    9/11

This film focuses on two police who risked their lives in the terrible events of the Twin Towers - 9/11. Although this film only follows two police cops into the Twin Towers on that fateful day, it is enough to realise how bad that day was to the lives of many people in New York and around the world. The film title does assume that it will tell the tale of the whole horrible event and show you what happened to many people not just 2 on that day, so I suppose a better title for the film could have been thought of, but the drama was very good from the main actors' and they delivered it well. 3 stars for effort.

    Misleading Title

It may be just one story of many from September 11, but I hadn’t read this prior to watching this film. When one considers how many people died in the WTC that day, I was amazed and disgusted that the whole story centred around two guys who arrived late on the scene, and subsequently got caught in the collapse of the building. Maybe the title is too strong for this film.

    wasted opportunity

Total waste of time bearing in mind this was a perfect chance to show the atrocity in its true light.Very narrow storyline(based on two survivors stories), disjointed, far too much emphasis on the under rubble entrapment.Appeared to be low budget, poor script, predictable screenplay. What a waste.

    boring

I found this film very long winded at the part where they were buried. Very dark, and hard to concentrate.

One of the worst films I have ever watched

Dull, tepid, uninspiring, monotonous and just plain boring. Everything a film based on 9/11 SHOULDN'T be. Some of the most mechanical acting I have ever witnessed. Nicholas Cage is abysmal. What was Oliver Stone thinking?!? Everyone involved in the making of this 'film' should be ashamed of themselves and I sincerely hope their careers are destroyed as a result of their willingness to portray such a harrowing and painful true story in such a hideously bland and mediocre way. This is a prime example of a movie cashing in on a Nation's pain in the most sickening way imaginable. After watching this film I feel the need to bathe in scalding hot water to wash its filth from me. Avoid this rancid turd of a film at all costs.

    Should have been alot better.

This is not an action film, nor is it a documentary about the aircraft hitting the towers & the survivors escaping. It is about two men stuck in the rubble waiting to be rescued & how their families coped during that time. It's interesting film which shows the confusion & lack of communication between the services on 9/11 and how ill prepared America was for an attack, but do not expect to be entertained.

All the way through the film you can't help but think there was a better true story on 9/11. Don't get me wrong 2 men survive & are rescued against all odds is good, but what about those who actually saved lives of those in the tower & managed to escape or not. To me it was an opportunity wasted.

The storyline of the former marine being inspired by the events to rejoin & 'avenge the attacks' by fighting in Iraq was just bizarre. To even link the two unrelated events was shocking & unforgivable.

Having said that it was well acted & it does show you what the families of the services in New York went through, but the story just wasn't good enough to warrant a major budget film being made about it.

    TRADE OFF

This film is RUBBISH and must be Stones worst to date. It treats a terrible event with mock sentimentality, its trite in its handling of the events and at over two hours long, mainly featuring only on two men talking drivel in a pile of rubble, is an insult to America!

    This is one to avoid.

    Mis-Titled

This film should have been called “Buried Alive”. Which is the plot of the entire film. It had an extremely narrow perspective of the events of 9/11. Workers of the WTC, FDNY, or even New Yorkers were not represented in this movie. Nicolas Cage & Michael Pena spent most of film trying to keep each other awake; you will have the same problem when watching this movie.

    Words aren't enough

Whichever way you look at this film you can;t help give it a high rating due to the subject and the true drama of the worst day in recent history.

Everyone can remember where they were when this happened and revsiting the terror certainly tugs at the your heart strings.

The film itself is pretty average with the majority of the drama happening after the towers come down.

    Great supporting cast.

Pity this won't go down in history as such a great film as Schindler's.

    Very good emotional drama

It seems that half of the reviewers of this film were probably expecting another Poseidon Adventure or Daylight. This is not that sort of film - it is an emotional drama, focusing on two police officers trapped in the rubble after the World Trade Center collapsed, their struggle to survive and the impact that it had on their families. Certainly, the whole 9/11 event was far bigger than portrayed in this film, but it is a closely focused character piece, and as that it works very well. As usual for an Oliver Stone film, it is superbly acted, written and directed and well worth seeing.
