A good version
By a customer from Cambridge, England , 06 Apr 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Although I haven't seen any of the other film versions, after studying Wuthering Heights, I found this version to be a 'decently accurate' (for a film version). Unlike some of the others, this version takes the viewer through the entire novel and all the main parts of the plot are included.
One thing I felt wasn't touched upon enough was the main themes in Wuthering Heights but otherwise a very enjoyable movie.
Highly recommended for anyone, especailly those studying this difficult book and want to get a summary of the plot.- Was this review helpful to you?

(17)dark
By a customer from London , 17 Jan 2010Slow, dark and uninspired. Cathy and Heathcliff are too old when they are young and this means that the whole thing fails because you have to believe in their passion to sustain any interest in the story. Having said that it was better than the super-sexed up 2009 version.- Was this review helpful to you?

Horribly dark (storyline AND set - though I realise it was pre-Electric light!)
By a customer from Wales , 02 Oct 2007I strongly DISliked this..
I now have to own up that I'd never read Wuthering Heights,
& never seen any version.
I chose THIS version because the cast included
Matthew Macfadyen
(who I was very 'taken with' as Mr Darcy in the new film of Pride & Prejudice).
However, in this Wuthering Heights he has only a tiny role - at the end (& maybe a bit at the start, before flashbacks: I can't remember - it's a while ago).
But I only enjoy 'feelgood' stories - I don't enjoy sad stories, especially about INjustice.- Was this review helpful to you?

alright i suppose
By a customer from London , 05 Sep 2006This is a good adaptation, all the main bits were there, but the film seemed very rushed, like they were trying to cram everything in and, as a consequence, conversations were extremely short and Heathcliff seemed to zoom around at 50mph, walking in and out of rooms as though the film was speeded up.
I think Cathy and Heathcliff were miscast. Cathy was not feisty enough and Heathcliff spent entirely too much time storming out of rooms and slamming doors, like a stroppy teenager - too wide eyed with rage, not nearly sultry, conniving or manipulative enough, or even good looking. I've never seen a less passionate exchange between the main characters either - they don't even kiss properly! It's all thin-lipped nibblings.
The saving grace of this film is Matthew MacFayden and Sarah Smart as young Cathy and Hareton, who are perfect in thier roles.
I would recommend this film for it's accuracy, but not for it's leading man or lady, which, i feel, let the whole thing down.- Was this review helpful to you?

OAP Heathcliffe
By a customer from Yorkshire , 15 Aug 2006This was ok but I think that the casting of Heathcliffe was wrong as he was just a bit too old to pull off the scenes when they were a young couple playing on the moors! Worth a watch if you are a die hard period drama fan though (like me)!- Was this review helpful to you?
