The best version of Wuthering Heights I have ever seen
By a customer from Newcastle , 16 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
A worthy adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic novel of the same title about love and obsession.
The casting is superb. Ralph fiennes plays the complex and enigmatic Heathcliff, whilst Juliette Binoche plays the loving tormentor Cathy.
I felt it was the music however composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto that truly captures the bleak, dank atmosphere of the Yorkshire Moors and places this version higher than other adaptations.
All in all a must see romance/ melodrama for any serious film lover.- Was this review helpful to you?

(46)An older version
By a customer , 18 Aug 2012Most disappointing - Juliette Binoche is not right for Cathy - the french accent appeared from time to time and Ralph Fiennes was rather hammy.
I expected the other version - made last year which got good reviews.- Was this review helpful to you?

an ok adaptation
By a customer from Cornwall , 11 Jul 2012Nothing great here. Thought Ralphy was a bit wimpish to be Heathcliffe, to be honest.
Wife liked it though- Was this review helpful to you?

In this case, black & white might be best.
By Movieaddict (9 reviews) from Portsmouth , 09 Jul 2011I'm a fan of Juliette Binoche but she isn't quite right for this role and I'm afraid, surprisingly, that Fiennes wasn't really up to it either. His facial expression, particularly when portraying inner torment, was often akin to somebody badly in need of dietary fibre and/or a laxative. Sorry to be negative, but, if you want to watch this story, I suggest you get the original.- Was this review helpful to you?

Rubbish
By a customer from West Midlands , 13 Aug 2010What a buchers job they made of a fine story! if i had not read the book i do not think i would be able to follow what was going on. Two much empasis on the love affair of Cathy and Heathcliffe. The book is more than just a love story I would not recommended this DVD at all- Was this review helpful to you?

Pretty, not gritty
By HDX (124 reviews) from Barry, Wales , 20 Mar 2010They have yet to make a good movie out of this legendary novel. Personally I'm not a fan of the book. If you hadn't read it I doubt this film would have you rushing to Waterstone's. Fiennes is wild-eyed and a bit scarey but ultimately too pretty and not gritty enough for this role. Pity Oliver Reed wasn't given a try-out in his younger days, a perfect fit. Juliette Binoche's Cathy carries all the cliched hallmarks. Why didn't they just stick Kate Bush's video in the middle and be done with it? It's OK if you can't find anything else.- Was this review helpful to you?
