  • It's packed with nonstop action, has cutting-edge special effects and stunt work, terrific cinematography (by Donald McAlpine) and beautiful locations, and is tautly directed by Gavin Hood. A super-buff Jackman gets to explore the character in more depth than previously and Liev Schreiber, as his brother, makes a dandy bad guy.

  • Jackman artfully embodies a character who is both ferocious and humane […]
Wolverine is well-acted, with spectacular action and witty one-liners. The special effects are top-notch.

Who can resist a gift of a spoof name like that?! I saw Oranges a few weeks ago so this is going to be brief. This is a more personal film than the overviewing X-Men Trilogy and it does certainly exceed the slightly odd feel of The Last Stand. I don't know, but call me Mr Cynical, this feels like part one of another trilogy. However, I will be looking in on the future installments if this is anything to go by. The effects are superb (as you'd expect), the story is engaging and the action is wonderful. If there's one criticism it's that Hugh Jackman still isn't given enough emotional range to play, so he's generally hitting the same note all the time. Otherwise, let's have some more sections of Tangerine...

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Hugh Jackman and Gavin Hood interview

    • 29 Apr 2009

The last time we caught up with Hugh Jackman he had just been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man of 2008. And while Hugh has no problem with stuntwork – before we spoke he made abseiling for charity look effortless (pictured) – it seems he’s still getting used to the idea of his sex appeal - a source of much amusement for Gavin Hood, Hugh’s director on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. We talked to them both about working with Liev Schreiber, and how they felt when the... Read more
