Cashing in on the success of the TV drama, Quatermass, which Hammer had already made into a feature film, this sc-fi drama deals with a series of baffling deaths at an atomic research establishment in the wilds of Scotland. It could be bog-standard radiation leaks and poisoning but maybe something else is going on, some alien slime on the loose? A typical product of the Cold War, it's all jolly polite as British boffins are led by American import Dean Jagger. His presence lends box-office appeal and also implies that British defence work has become a branch of American foreign policy.
Minor sci-fi horror with a monster-like liquid lino, rushed into release to cash in on The Quatermass Experiment.
A superior SF thriller from Hammer reflecting the cold war paranoia and fear of radiation in the mid-50s. Set in the Scottish highlands, Dr Adam Royston (Dean Jagger)fights to save the world from intelligent radioactive sludge emananing from the bowels of the Earth. The horror of the situation is reflected by the actors' reactions rather than special effects which are kept to a minimum. The DVD also includes an insightful interview with Jimmy Sangster who wrote the script.
good low budget sci-fi horror.the science sounds plausable and it does get quite tense.well acted by vet holywood star and young familiar brits.no girls involved but the extras include extracts from other hammer films.
