(56)Could have been better
By papatez (295 reviews) from folkestone , 01 May 2013The director clearly had his eye on the Palm D'or and tried to create a visual masterpiece. This tended to detract from what could have been a great story - simply told. As a result the film just falls short of what it could have been and there really isn't enough to keep you interested. I spent a lot of time pushing the fast forward button.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Good Looking but Painful Film
By Cato (705 reviews) from Lydbury North , 13 Nov 2012A strongly acted film on a very serious and psychologically painful human condition. This is not a film for those who like feelgood, but watch it if you enjoy great acting, driection and cinematography in a beautiful part of the world, It will stay with you.- Was this review helpful to you?

A difficult subject, sympathetically covered
By Turquoiselady (15 reviews) , 11 Jan 2012A beautiful film about a very difficult subject. The characters are all superbly played - Ines Efron is fantastic as the tormented Alex; Martin Piroyansky superb as the confused teenage boy. Heart-wrenching in parts - especially the bit where the surgeon is brutally honest with his son. Well worth spending a couple of hours indoors- Was this review helpful to you?

Powerful & moving
By a customer , 11 Aug 2011Beautiful and powerful film. Illustrates the power of father/daughter (or son) bond against a world of narrow mindedness.
XXY carries an aura of calmness about it with brilliant wide camera shots of coastal scenery. Leaves me thinking that it just wouldn't have worked being set in a city.
Amazingly mature acting by the two leading teenagers.
Watch it and be open minded...- Was this review helpful to you?

Just OK really but better than Songs of Praise
By 5ft7offootballheaven (300 reviews) from London , 26 Jul 2011Clearly better than Songs of Praise or some other early Sunday evening drivel. Its got some great scenery and some lovely moments but overall its not that engaging. Strangely didnt feel that compasionate towards lead character - perhaps thats a good thing from the Director in that I didnt feel pity / sorrow - maybe thats what he / she wanted. Definitely worth a watch but not the earnest worthy movie that was trailed.- Was this review helpful to you?
