Good old fashioned fun
By a customer from Edinburgh, Scotland , 03 Aug 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a good sunday afternoon film, what the film lacks in storyline it makes up for in it's score and dance numbers. Fred astaire and Rita Hayworth are amazing on the dancefloor and have a good chemistry. Not as good as You were never lovelier but still worth a look!!- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Great dancing
By a customer from Derby England , 13 Aug 2010It has been a delight to find previously (for me) unseen Fred Astaire films. In this film (as in many others) Fred's solo dances were outstanding and Rita Hayworth was excellent with him - and as another reviewer said, forget the plot, just enjoy the fun. The film contains a great cameo for a little guy with a Stanley Unwin style of delivery.- Was this review helpful to you?

Big disappointment.
By BernieM (35 reviews) from Richmond,Surrey,UK , 24 Mar 2010I read a review that said (more or less) ignore the plot and enjoy the wonderful dance sequences; there's a special bond between Fred and Rita. Well, certainly the plot was dire, and so was the ploddingly tedious direction. But I also failed to detect much magic in the lavish (b&w) dance sequences. Sure Rita Hayworth is beautiful, and the funny-faced Astaire can still dance with energy and verve, but perhaps I should stick to the Astaire-Rogers formula. It seems to me that the later films are no match for the earlier ones.- Was this review helpful to you?

You'll Never Get Rich
By Miriam from Ealing, London , 21 Feb 2010Fred Astaire's solo dance routines in the guard-house were brilliant, as are his solo dances in all his films.
His dance with Rita Hayworth towards the end of the film was also lovely to watch.
Problem is, the title of the film doesn't match the story.- Was this review helpful to you?

A treat
By a customer from Exeter , 21 Mar 2009It's always a treat to watch Fred Astaire dancing and this time with the beautiful Rita Hayworth. This film is good for cheering you up in these gloomy times. Don't worry about the plot. Just enjoy the sets, the dancing and the music.- Was this review helpful to you?
