Youngblood

Dean Youngblood (Rob Lowe), a sensitive young farm boy, leaves behind a humdrum life on his father's farm to fulfill his dream, and that of his blind brother, of becoming a star of the skates and stick in the ice hockey team. As he gets the stuffing kicked out of him in the first games and practices, he learns he will need more than ambition and confidence to prove himself in this cold-hearted arena. He soon falls in love with the daughter of his no-nonsense coach, which lies at odds with the fighting which is a necessity in the sport for him to be noticed by professional hockey scouts. He believes he has what it takes to make it in the no-excuses world of professional ice hockey. YOUNGBLOOD also features a mulleted Patrick Swayze and an early appearance from Keanu Reeves.

A routine sports drama which features Rob Lowe (remember him?) as an up-and-coming hockey player who joins a small-town team, and falls for the daughter of its stereotypically tough-nut coach. The film toddles along, but never really gets its skates on. If you've seen any Rocky or Karate Kid films, then the “plot” will have a familiar ring, so to stay awake, try to spot Keanu Reeves. It's his feature debut.

    Old Blood

Like a couple of other reviewers, it comes in as a blast from the past when the brat pack .....were the brat pack and Keanu Reeves couldn't act!!!!!

It's a stark realization then that i've grown up and so has all the stars - it's so formula it's hard to imagine that someone wrote this and didn't just pinch it from Rocky and every other sport film where outsider makes good...what the hell enjoy the fact that we were all young once....

    Ratner: 'Pattinson is superhero material'

    • 15 Aug 2009

Twilight star Robert Pattinson has been tipped to sink his teeth into a superhero role in producer/director Brett Ratner's movie adaptation of graphic novel Youngblood. Ratner is still working on the script for the big screen version of Rob Liefeld's comic, about a sanctioned team of government superheroes, but he admits hunk Pattinson has caught his eye as a potential contender for a leading role. Ratner tells MTV News, "He just feels like he belongs in that world. I don't only see him as a... Read more
