More about the homes and interiors than fashion
By SuzannaLee (1 review) , 16 Jan 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
This will appeal more to fans of fine art and interiors as the documentary follows the sale of personal art collection of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. If you are more interested in YSL as a fashion designer, and if like me, you are a lifelong fan, then this DVD will not show you anything you don't already know.
The DVD covers the rise of Saint Laurent and Bergé's careers and some insight into the lifestyle but mostly their homes in Paris, their holiday home in Morocco and their final retirement home: the amazingly dreamy and beautiful Château Gabriel. There are detailed commentary by Saint Laurent and Bergé's interior designer.
It is not really a love story either, although Bergé's speaks of their relationship, it is clear his devotion to Saint Laurent is absolute - which in a way is touching.
So, if you are expecting a documentary about fashion and YSL as a designer, you could be disappointed - however, if you appreciate wonderfully sumptuous interiors, fine art and the pleasure of collecting, then this DVD is for you.- Was this review helpful to you?
