Mediocre
I'm never sure how much entertainment value I get out of films like this but I'm still interested in watching them.
This is probably the weakest zatoichi film I have seen. The story is a bit weak and its generally very slow going. The action scenes aren't amazing or particularly well done and at times the music is terrible.
Yet the main character is not without his charms as are some of the other characters. Theres not a single scene that really stands out though.
The quality of the dvd image is fairly poor. I normally use a projector but just used my little Thomson 28' for this one.
I started watching it about 4 times before losing interest in it and switching off and then finally when the mood caught me watched it all.
The end title sequence had a year of 1972 I think so not sure where the 1966 bit comes from unless I'm remembering wrongly.
My recommendation is your probably better off watching something else. -

What's going on?
This seems to have been transferred from a dodgy ex-rental betamax tape and there also seems to have been a mix up with the subtitles since they seem to bear no relation to what may or may not be happening on screen. Not the best Zatoichi flick but certainly the worst in technical terms. If you are considering renting this, watch Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo instead.
