An engaging central performance and some effective set pieces overcome a disjointed, episodic narrative.

Average samurai story but bad transfer job

The stories of blind swordsmen are plenty. Here, in a complicated story of gambling, corrupt officials, greed, love and, of course, revenge no characters are totally white nor black. The acting is average, FX almost believable, and swordplay decent. There is the use of peasants folk songs almost stolen from Seven Samurai.

This DVD is only let down by poor technical transfer from film to DVD media, which is all too obviously done using a cheap consumer DV camcorder and filming the screen, or maybe you can find another excuse for the quality to be so poor.

What the heck is going on?

This was exciting and action packed - but the subtitles were done by the people who translate user instrucions on cheap electronics with the result that the dialogue often seems to bear no relation to the action on screen. All the same, well worth watching.
