Zelig is the main character of this mockumentary about an infamous individual from the 1920s who was able to involuntarily change his appearance. So we see Zelig suddenly gaining weight when stood next to a couple of fat men, changing his skin colour, personality etc, all of which cause him to become a celebrity. Much of the humour is taken from the media?s reaction, the crazy merchandise and the dances celebrating The Chameleon.
All of this is done using both footage from the 1920s and ?aged? black and white footage of Allen as Zelig and Mia Farrow as his psychiatrist, edited so well that you can?t see the seams.
Definitely one of Woody?s funniest films, it might not be laugh a minute, but the subtle humour will get under your chameleon skin.
