This film is perfection personified, though the film fits the gangster genre it is not primarily concerned with flaunting brutal or violent imagery, quite the opposite - the story, plot and themes are lavish and a host of meticulous actors share the responsibility of bringing `Bugsy` to life. This tale is inevitably tragic and deals with bugsy malone - prophet, brutal, ingenious and weak with women. Powerhouse performances from Beautty and Bening who later tied the knot - their chemistry is displayed on screen. Supporting cast include Ben Kingsley (Gandhi) and Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs)

  • A real treat

Levinson's big biopic of 30s gangster Bugsy Siegel has it all - a wonderful cast, astonishingly detailed production design, glistening photography, gorgeous costumes, a sharp script and a lush Ennio Morricone score. But it's in the acting that the picture really scores. Beatty has never been better - all bustling energy and barely suppressed psychosis - and he sparks dramatically off Bening, in equally blistering form as his trampy moll.

  • Warren Beatty wasn't convincing

Parts of Bugsy were great. Warren Beatty looked great in the role but some of his acting at times was awful and bought the whole film down. Harvey Keitel and Ben Kingsley were fantastic and most of the other supporting actors helped raise the film. It all comes down to whether you think Warren Beatty gave a good performance, I just felt he wasn't good enough displaying the rage and anger. It wasn't convincing.

  • Mediocre

He is tall and strong. He's got interpersonal skills of a president and vision of a prophet. He's a noble gentleman with exquisite taste of food, clothes and women who fall in love with him at first sight. He dreams of ending WWII and building a paradise city in the desert. None can kill him because his aura is bullet proof. He is James Bond, Batman and Superman all in one. Can you guess why? Because he is a gangster!

My impression of the film is that it's nothing but a long, boring advertisement of mafia saying 'If you want to be this cool come and join us'. A few predictable 'dramatic' turns in the very end fail to make it more interesting. 1.5 stars for stylish costumes and not to drag rating down too much - I guess it's still one of mafia classics.
