A Nostalgic Journey into the Golden Age of Japanese RPGs

3D Dot Game Heroes is a game that plays like The Legend of Zelda while including a beautiful art-style filled with nostalgic references to old JRPGs like Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior (Quest).
It is a must have for anyone who was around to play these game. For those who aren't interested in the references, the solid gameplay and character creation will still give a lot of fun. With the character creator, you can recreate any of your favourite 8-bit sprites in 3D and continue the story at any time.
The game does not take itself seriously, the story is nothing epic, but rather takes the mickey of older games.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Trajiin (8 reviews) from Birkenhead , 24 Jun 2011I do believe nostalgia got the better of me on this one. zelda use to be one of my all time favourite games, the backtracking once you have a new weapon just to open up a secret you couldn't before was great. This just didn't do it for me. Its identical in every way and although I understand it to be a love letter to games gone by, the developers still should of tried to add a bit of their own touch to it. It's completely void of its own personality and could of been a lot better if it wasn't trying to be something it never could be.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good Game

I enjoyed playing although it wasn't really a game I would have ordered for myself. Rent under the pretense that it will be you playing (or Teens) rather than younger children. Although 3D Dot Heroes pays homage to many other games before it there is so much original content and amazingly unique gameplay. Another awesome PS3 exclusive.. Wonderful.- Was this review helpful to you?

Exactly what makes gaming great!
By ShatnersGhost (25 reviews) from Wirral , 29 Sep 2010A wonderful tribute to what made gaming what it is today. This game returned me to the 8-bit fantasy land that was my childhood. Pure simple gaming without the modern complexity of todays next-gen consoles but with the glorious HD and 3D rendering they bring.
