sorry....but, this game as a HITMAN game is nothing short of dire. It really is. Gone are everything that made the hitman games great.

Feel free to select NO this review doesn't help you if you love hitman and just cant stand to read a word against this poor imitation of a hitman game. However if you agree then please select YES so that anybody renting this title will know not to get their hopes up!

It's worth renting to play through out of curiosity or if you are new to the hitman games then you might love this because you dont know wht your missing and would be best served by also renting Blood Money or the older games to try, but, if you are a long time fan of hitman and the progression the games have made so far then you will be disappointed.

I purchased this game on release day and traded it in after forcing 6 mind numbing hours out of it because I refused to believe it wasn't going to get better. It didn't. There are a couple of levels with the old hitman feel to them but they are part of the segmented block of levels. My friend commented that he really likes this game, he hated all the 'waiting around for ages' with the other Hitman games. Which i thought was incredible because the open areas and multiple trial and error was half the fun! The other half was figuring out all the quirky kills and making a mockery of the AI as I walked around in disguise. Which by the way is gone....i'll elaborate later...

Unfortunately Hitman:absolution has taken on a very strange change and is like a dumbed down stealth game for the shooty and impatient generation, either that or the developers decided to use what I'd wager was actually a failed build for a Kane and Lynch 3. This game now plays like the best bits from Splinter cell: conviction and improves on the first kane and lynch game and does not work as a hitman game.

If this game was a Kane and Lynch 3, then score! Good not brilliant game but far improved from the others. If it was a new game altogether combining elements of other games then it would make a good rental. As a Himan game though DIRE!

If you don't sneak undetected then all bullet dodging hell beaks loose and you wind up running around in a massive shootout. However! why not just use a disguise?? Well - you can, but, from halfway across the map other 'guard types' will become suspicious of 47 dressed the same as them...even when wearing sunglasses and a hat (when 47 decides a hat or mask from the guards disguise is a good idea - cos sometimes he doesn't take those identity concealing items......hygiene reasons I suspect.) and shout things like 'HEY I THINK THAT GUY DATED MY SISTER' or 'HEY YOU DO I KNOW YOU'. This is very frustrating because you end up walking in a ridiculous spiraling pattern tying to avoid every 'PING' on your radar (because there's no map anymore...) followed by more shouts of someones sister or jail time. This might not have been so bad so much of a hindrance to the game if it wasn't for the game forcing you into areas - entire segmented areas - where there is only one guard type...so you can either be suspicious looking like.....47 or suspicious looking like a guard...so rubbish. I like bit of realism in a game but come on! seriously!!

The open areas are no longer open, the levels are segmented into move from point A to exit at point B with very little in between. The cut scenes are ridiculous, nonsensical and very poorly done. The missions like i said before are segmented and there not whole lot that can be done within them without raising alarm because of a variety of suspicious guards...that apparently all have sisters, have done time with you or think they know you because you are wearing the same uniform or jeans and a jumper...

Oh and the 'coup de grace' you can replay levels.....................but your not allowed to select your equipment YOU want before you replay them, so no more re-playability when bored and want to play through an earlier level with your super spesh upgraded guns just for the hell of it. If they could've left anything in the game to salvage it- it would've been that.

first hitman game i have started an completed and i have to say i really enjoyed this game, not played contracts at time of writing this as the credits are rolling behind me on the game. the only problem i found was when ya want to heal at first aid points there may be a item close and you end up picking up and putting down items rather than healing but this is a minor irritation to what i consider a good game, if ya wants stealthy kills it has that but if ya just want to fill somebody full of silenced lead ya can do that too.

  • Bugs, crashes and corrupted save files. FRUSTRATION!!!

This should've been a LOT better. As a veteran fan of the Hitman franchise, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the long overdue return of Agent 47. Don't get me wrong.... this game is beautiful to look at and the storyline is atmospheric and well scripted, but the bottom line is.... it's full of bugs. Despite downloading the most recent patch, this is still VERY prone to crashing. Worse still... it can corrupt your saved data when it does losing all your progress in one swoop. Frustrating, because this could've been so much better!!

I had never played the Hitman games before. After finishing this one I loved it. The graphics were brilliant and the plot was excellent. Also this game was a perfect balance between action and strategy. I recommend this to all who like games like Assassins Creed or other games like that.

I myself am new to the Hitman franchise, having been aware of the previous games but they have merely been on the fringe of my knowledge. However, having finally picked one up, I can say they are a neat, crisp and puzzling experience whose gameplay rewards the more creative and dynamically minded. At the same time, it also caters to the gun blazing, action hero players who find it more effective to introduce piano wires to larynxes and leave a slew of bodies as a mark of their actions. Hitman: Absolution’s story is easy enough to get you head around, even for me who has literally 0% knowledge of any other storyline in any other game. Agent 47 is sent to kill his previously trusted and former Agency ally Diana Burnwood, for seemingly having betrayed the Agency. With her dying words, Diana asks 47 to help keep a young girl safe from ever being found by the Agency, or she will suffer the same fate as he did in his youth. From thereafter, 47 proceeds to find and protect this girl, from both the Agency and another faction who have taken a keen interest in her. The gameplay is straightforward. You enter an area, get given a target(s) to kill and then must leave the area. Simple, but very effective. With this basic set of rules, a gameplay style exists within this framework to reward both the direct path takers and the more cunning of mind. Some areas of the map are off limits, only accessible to say police officers or fire fighters, and your target may well be in this area or in a protected place. You could simply test how bulletproof each of the patrolling police officers armour is, or you can find a police uniform, sneak past everyone, give your target a good choking, dump his body and then leave the same way you came in, with no one the wiser. If you’re feeling attached to 47’s rather dapper suit and don’t want to change, you may well find a vent that leads directly in to the bedroom of your unfortunate victim. It’s the beauty of trying to solve a puzzle that has about 10 possible answers, some being fractionally different and some being completely absurd. Technically, you can just grab a shotgun and run riot, but that’s really not what this game is about, and hardly encourages you to play in such a style. The game also has a variety of difficulties. You have bread and butter easy, normal and hard, all of which affect the alertness and reactions of the enemies, and also what 47 earns Instinct for (Instinct being used to find clues and sneak past suspecting enemies while in disguise). There are then the Professional difficulties which really crank up the AI’s abilities and layout of the maps. Guards will take random patrol paths and notice when others are missing from theirs, leading to them investigating and perhaps look for a body. More enemies litter the map, making the target harder to get to and kill without being noticed. Perception from enemies is higher, noticing even the slightest detail out of place. Essentially, EVERYTHING is harder and should only be attempted by the brave, the stupid and maybe actually real hitmen (however, based on 47’s schedule, I doubt many of them have time for gaming). The online is another refreshingly different take on the standard multiplayer. In my mind, it wouldn’t be right to have eight people running round all as Agent 47 with shotguns, sniper rifles and silenced pistols all attempting to paint the map red with blood. So thankfully, that’s not what Square Enix have done. The multiplayer exists in the form of Contracts. Players select a map or scene from the single player campaign, set up a series of rules or parameters, e. g. no disguises allowed or completed within a certain time limit, attempt the map themselves and whatever score they achieve is the one other players have to beat. You then post your challenge online (or directly mock your friends by informing them of the challenge) and if people beat you, they get a reward of money to unlock weapons and attachments in the single player campaign and to be used online and if they don’t beat you, you get the money. Simple, no? The only gripe I would have about the game is that enemies are almost too perceptive. If you are anywhere within their field of vision, they pretty much spot you within about five seconds. It is, in a way, good I suppose that the game hasn’t been ruined by AI who suffer from a severe case of tunnel vision, but it feels that it has been unfairly flipped and if they do even catch of glimpse of 47’s classic red tie, alarms will sound and the cavalry will be sent in. This makes some sections incredibly frustrating and makes you want to just stop playing or just run around popping every guard you see. All in all, I would say for a rental, this is certainly worth a try.

continually freezes when playing, and does not save automatically like it says. ended up replaying the thing three times over after having to restart the game when it froze. seems to be an issue when changing disguises or progressing through the levels. would be a great game except for these issues!
