A pretty dull experience.

I was excited to play this game, I thought that after 6 years of development time it would have been great. Instead it's a fairly boring game with a lot of bugs.
Dead Island does have some fun parts to it, making your own weapons is simple but rewarding and when you level up it eventually changes how you play.
The weapons are varied enough, although they all fall under three categories, sharp, blunt, ranged. There aren't many guns in the game and you'll find yourself using melee for the majority of it, this is rather annoying as melee combat gets pretty boring and sometimes frustrating.
The missions are very dull, go here, collect this, bring it to me, is usually as indepth as they get. Looting will soon become an annoyance too as it breaks up the gameplay too much, you have to stop to unzip or open whatever you're looting, then stop again to pick up the item inside, it takes far too long for what it is.
Co-op does add to the game, playing with some friends makes the game more enjoyable. The game features drop in-drop out co-op so anyone at anytime can join your game despite their level or how far they are.
Dead Island has some good ideas, but the overall gameplay gets old fast. You probably wont find yourself starting a new game as soon as you've beat this, so I'd advise it as a rental.- Was this review helpful to you?

A less-than-gripping game, but has its moments!
By JonathanRoberts (11 reviews) , 10 Nov 2012Dead Island puts a twist on the typical zombie shooter - in the sense that it's *not* a shooter. About 85-90% of the weaponry is melee based; baseball bats, knives, wrenches and sledgehammers - just to name a few. The weapon system isn't dissimilar to the one found in MMO games, and Borderlands; many variants of a certain base weapon with varying properties and a set rarity.
The enemies are a fresh challenge for the zombie apocalypse aficionado, with each zombie offering an actual fight (rather than being one-shot to the floor). However, this is the real problem; each zombie puts up a fight! The combat gets rather tedious and severely impedes your progress.
The story itself is rather unique, but a player must really be intrigued if they don't want to become apathetic about it mid-way. The game should've been cut down about 40-50%; it's just too much. Reaching the end of the game, I was actually anticipating the moment I could eject the game and never see it again!- Was this review helpful to you?

Good And Bad

The only only problem is the online co-op a lot of people have hacked it and try to spoil the game they join the game give u equipment and ruin it so beware.. Good But Beware

Not what I expected

The reason I found it disappointing was because I actually got very bored about a third of the way into the main story and the ending was so predictable I was glad I had completed it...
