    [Highly rated reviewer]

I have played a lot of games on the 360 but I have to say that Deadly Premonition is absolutely unique. The graphics are terrible, the controls are dire and the camera is frustrating but the pure brilliance and individuality of the oddball characters and fantastic dialogue more than makes up for it's downfalls.

The atmosphere and many of the cut scenes made me wimper in fear as any survival horror should and yet so many more made me laugh and smile like no other game does. The jerky character movements and strange conversational topics absolutely create this game's charm and hilarity. You will never match the 'sinner's sandwich scene' for odd humour no matter how many games you play.

However, as I said above, the controls are some of the worst I've ever used and the combat is simple and repetitive. I admit I do often find myself even slogging through these bits just to get to the next nugget of cinematic genius, whether it be scary or funny.

Maybe this game is better to watch than to play (most of my housemates tend to sit and watch me whenever I play this game) but if you can get past its faults and appreciate it's sketchy graphics and confusing dialogue as part of the games unique way of presenting an enthralling and entertaining story then it is DEFINITELY worth playing.

  • Amazing Story

Many of these reviews that give a low star are people that played for an hour and sent it back. sure the controls suck etc but the story is amazing, you notice how the good reviews are all people who carryed on playing and did not quit early.

  • The controls SUCKED

I didn't play far into the game to be honest as the controls reminded me of some bad PS1 games with bad controls.

The graphics match the controls but don't let that put you off. It looks like it could be a good game and I was recommended it by a mate who loved it.

So this is a game that you really need to try yourself, NayBoh and his review are right it is unique so give it ago, it just wasn't for me!

  • Marmite in game form

DP is the very definition of the cult hit or Marmite game. Many will play it for ten minutes and be completely turned away by the fugly gfx and (hopefully deliberately)clunky, tank like Resi1 awkward controls(L4D this ISN'T)but for those wanting something different in the survival horror and open world genres DP can deliver in spades.

Where it wins is in the dense plot, intentional oddness, quirky characters, Twin Peaks style cues and in spinning a tale with characters you might actually get to care about a little. I found myself, though i went in knowing it's devisive reputation, really enjoying much of the cinematic content and either tolerating the fumble fingered controls or, as it has the WORST laid out QTE sequences of any game EVER, actually screaming in frustration as the awful hit detection screwed me over in another should be easy boss fight. Even for those who, like myself, enjoy the game the Marmite moments are always there and if you have a\ patience issue it's not the game for you.

Whatever, there's some genuinely entertaining dialogue and I found myself needing to get to the end much more than with a lot of other bigger budget games with better Meta scores. the faults are obvious and the button layout mental but /I saw enough to think Swery's clever gameplay moments could prove it was all deliberate and most shortcomings were down to either budget or being too clever for their own good.

Still, a good change if you can look past some pretty annoying basic gameplay issues with genuine moments of drama, creepiness and amazingly well drawn characters for vidja games. VERY ugly though, very ugly indeed. BTW, if you can't put up with all the driving about wasting time it's worth doing, IIRC, sidequest two.

Too wonky to be a great but too great to be ignored and for some of us an overlooked, quaintly entertaining oddity-almost certainly a change from what you played last, mind, and I'd love to see what Swery would make given a full, GTA style budget.

One of the worst games i have ever tried to play on the Xbox 360. I didn't even understand what was going on in the 1st 2 mins. Again another title i have sent back the same day i got. Graphics ain't everything but these are ps1 graphics.
