Not a bad game... not a great one either

I quite enjoyed Eat Lead, however those looking for the next Gears of War should look elsewhere. It plays like a PS2 game with better graphics. Some laughs to be had, but I can't help but feel some golden opportunities were missed. Little to no replay value (no unlockables apart from a difficulty level) and repetitive gameplay and enemies stop this title from being something truly different. Controls are adequate but the cover system can be a little off when coming under attack suddenly, Indeed some of the games inadequacies are played for laughs by the character, but miss the spot when they aren't rectified. It's difficult to laugh at parody when you become the very thing that the joke is based on.
Since the game is based on a fictional 80's computer game character, some of his 'earlier' efforts that are mentioned in the game should of been included be it as part of the game or unlockable extras. I realise that this would take time and effort, but it is worth mentioning that Marvel Ultimate Alliance at least managed to include a Pitfall type game in one of the levels. As I said, missed opportunities.
Aside from that the main game takes around 6-8 hours to complete depending on skill and difficulty level chosen, and well worth a rainy day rent. And for all you achievment hoes out there, my 1 playthrough garnered me 945 points! (making me feel slightly dirty I might add, as earning slightly over the same amount in Fallout 3 took me nearly 100 hours!)
In conclusion, worth playing if you have the spare time and lack of other better titles (or you're suffering from a drought of new games), but the feeling of something greater lurking under the skin of this game is inescapable.
A great rental for a slow weekend, but I wouldn't of been happy if I'd paid the RRP for it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Painful, very painful!
By Jayman89 (12 reviews) from London , 25 Nov 2011This was a poor excuse for a video game, and I think the creators knew that so decided to go back and put in a lot of bad but sometimes funny jokes/moments. I found it a struggle just to get past the first level let alone the entire game. Not through difficulty but pure annoyance and boredem. Storyline was dull, aiming system was terrible, I'm actually gonna stop here as I could go on for hours. The one and ONLY good thing about this game was the achievements where extremely easy to obtain and without even trying I got 900G from it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not fantastic but I wasn't sorry I rented it
By Stubert (17 reviews) from London , 04 Apr 2011To be honest, I enjoyed the humour more than the gameplay. Tongue-in-cheek references to most of the popular video games of the past two decades allowed the inherent comedy throughout the game to make up for the average gameplay. Overall I didn't feel like I'd wasted my life playing it, and it provided a few chuckles and gamer points. Would recommend if there's nothing amazing you want to rent at the moment.- Was this review helpful to you?
