    [Highly rated reviewer]

I rented this hoping it would be like final fantasy however its not of the same quality by far. The game is far more monotonous than any Final Fantasy i have played and the graphics are not much to write home about.

This games is only worth a rent.

  • Achingly awful anime sugar-rush...

Blagh. I love a JPRG as much as the next man, but when one comes at you like a rabid young anime fan in cosplay, wailing and wooping and speaking faux-Japanese my only reaction can be to swat it away.

Enchanted Arms begins by throwing you in at the deep end with a bunch of the most uninspiring characters in history. The lead is your typical carefree shoolboy with big hair and is flanked by two other stereotypes; the dark, moody guy with slightly smaller hair and the so-gay-its-actually-offensive-to-gay-people guy who attacks with a saxophone and speaks as if he's playing the pantomime Genie in Aladdin.

The humour is crass and terribly written; the dialogue equivalent of someone farting. I know for a fact my gay friends would be appealed at the crude and careless stereotyping of the gay character; and this is from someone who doesn't make a habit of getting up in arms about stuff like that. The rest of the dialogue is so typical of the genre that it's impossible to be interested. There is nothing new or even admirable here, just instantly unlikable and boring characters.

The combat system is both boring and overcomplicated. I don't even fully understand it despite sitting through a half-hour-long, achingly-slow tutorial fight. Fights are even slower than Final Fantasty and have no excitement to them whatsoever.

Enchanted Arms threatens to put you off within the first 5 minutes and even if you persevere you get a boring story full of flat characters and a cluttered battle system for your troubles.

  • Poor man's chess.

Heard a lot of good things about this game but unfortunately.. Couldn't get past the first ten minutes.

The fact that the battle system is like a poor man's chess board put me off completely.

I understand that people have said that the game progresses and you become used to it.. But I couldn't get past that.

So in conclusion.. Maybe if I'd given it a chance it would have been great. But getting past the awful battle system I just couldn't do.

  • A decent RPG

I know what your looking for and this game is not Final Fantacey. But it is a good RPG. The characters are intresting and have some funny diologue. The battle system a bit wierd, sort of like what you would expect in an RPG but with a chess, mapping sort of stratagy needed. It works but it takes away the ability to just mash A compfortably in a battle sequance because your party will spawn in random positions on the 'field'.

The rest of the game such as the story are pretty much would you would expect from an RPG. Lengthy with plenty of twists and characters, and little 'side quests.'

The only bad side i really noticed to this game is altho the diologue is funny, theres alot of it. And most of it just isnt needed. You'll end up just mashing A skipping alot of it just to find you missed something you needed to know. But its tolerable as the game is quite linier in terms of progression, so you will never stray too far from your objective if you get lost.

    I give this game a 6/10.

I would say its worth a rent, but i picked it up preowned for £6.

  • an average rpg

i am a longtime player of rpgs. i even remember playing final fantasy 2, so i would like to think i have a good eye for that little something that makes rpgs great. unfortunately i dont believe this game has it. the storyline is average at best as is the graphics. i like the turn based combat but i find it a little too much like chess. the movement system and combat range was a little annoying at times and i find myself asking 'what where they thinking?' i would recomend you playing the game as it is a good game as far as the whole rpg genre goes. perhaps the recent release of dead rising 2 has clouded my judgement as i find myself drawn to turning off any game to play it. your probably reading this thinking 'yer but is it worth the rental?' well yes! it is deffinately worth renting and playing as there are far worse games to spend your rentals on.
