A Disney version of Sharky and George some might say, the companys latest big screen venture follows the aquatic journey of Marlin and Dory in a typical comedic adventure. But no Disney film would be complete without a video game spin-off, and Travellers Tales has been called in to develop the GameCube equivalent.
When clownfish Nemo is captured by a diver on his first day at school, you find yourself assuming the role of his father, Marlin, in an attempt to, well, find Nemo. But no Disney character goes it alone, and so pesky sidekick Dory joins his side for the ride.
The game is the typical of the explore-em-up platformer you would expect of a Disney game produced by Travellers Tales, and spans 20 aquatic 3D levels, featuring many familiar traits of the platform genre. Collecting items, avoiding sub-aquatic hazards and chase levels are the norm within this film inspired game world.
Visually, Finding Nemo looks respectable, its convincing as a video game representation of the film, and the cartoon style will go down very well with the games younger target audience.
Interspersed with gameplay are numerous cut-scenes and clips from the film, driving the plot forward. Its nothing adventurous, but its all very familiar, and younger gamers will relish the simple gameplay and vibrant underwater locales Finding Nemo has to offer. A highly enjoyable game.
